Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center
William Farrington, best known for developing the Tanglewood subdivision, was one of the most responsible developers in Houston in the 1940s and 1950s. He employed excellent architects and held them to consistently high standards. The warm red brick cladding this building was chosen to harmonize with the houses in River Oaks. The original canopies with their handsome back lit plaster coves have been obscured by tawdry canvas shop signage.
